Meru Youth Service (MYS) CEO CPA Edwin Murangiri convened a consultative meeting with the leadership of Meru United Riders Association (MURA). They aimed to explore potential areas of partnership and collaboration. The association was represented by its Chairman John Barasa, and Secretary General Nicholas Ngaku.
‎During their discussions, MURA leadership expressed concern that a significant number of young people engaged in the boda boda sector rely solely on motorcycle transport for their livelihoods. They noted that many of these youths lack alternative sources of income and that in the long term, the sector does not provide sustainable or secure economic opportunities.
‎In response, the MYS CEO assured them that inclusivity would be a key consideration in the forthcoming MYS recruitment exercise. He further pledged that future programmes would be carefully planned and designed to be both structured and responsive to the specific needs of boda boda riders. These tailored initiatives he emphasized, would ensure that riders are fully included and benefit from the opportunities offered under Meru Youth Service.
‎Today’s meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the MYS Board Caroline Ntinyari, and the Chairperson of the Sectoral Committee on Youth Affairs, Sports, Gender, and Social Development at the Meru County Assembly Hon. Julius Miriti, underscoring the engagement’s importance and the commitment of various stakeholders to youth empowerment.
