By offering a range of programs and initiatives, it equips youth with the tools and guidance to realize their full potential, fostering responsible community engagement. Anchored in the Department of Youth Affairs, Sports & Social Services under the leadership of the Executive Member (CECM) and overseen by a 9 Board members, the MYSB is led by a Chief Executive Officer, also serving as the Board’s Secretary who is an ex-official. The Board has power to co-opt not more than 2 persons with proven experience in youth related matters.
The established County the Meru Youth Service Board is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a seal; capable of suing and being sued in its corporate name; taking, purchasing or otherwise acquiring, holding, charging or disposing of movable and immovable property; borrowing money or making investments; entering into contracts; and doing or performing all other acts or things for the proper performance of its functions under this Act which may lawfully be done or performed by a body corporateTop of Form
The MYSB in its year of foundation was able to train 1000 cohorts, equip them with vocational skills at the Meru National Polytechnic and issue them with relevant tool kits each. This was an important milestone as so far the MYSB has trained and skilled almost 3000 cohorts in the 5 years of existence.
Importantly, the MYSB has conducted other impactful programs in the areas of environmental protection, talent identification & development; and afforestation. These programs include ‘Ngarisha Mtaa’, ‘Adopt-a-Tree Adopt-a-Hill’ and ‘The Stars Project’.
In its delivery of service, the Meru Youth Service Board has worked with many partners to achieve the great success it enjoys this far. Some of the more notable partners over time include but not limited to The KCB Foundation, GIZ, UN-Habitat, Meru National Polytechnic, Mafuko Energies, all Meru County Vocational Training Center among others. These linkages continue to add value to the Service’s service delivery and provide a platform for learning and exchange of best practices.
