Meru Youth Service (MYS): Skills, Service, and Empowerment.
The Meru Youth Service (MYS) is ready for launch, with recruitment date to be announced soon. The program aims to empower young people in Meru County with practical skills, discipline, and opportunities for employment and self-reliance.
Program Structure;
The program runs in structured phases designed to address youth empowerment, rehabilitation, and job creation.
Phase One:
Paradisciplinary Training & Community Service.This phase builds soft and life skills while promoting civic responsibility. Training includes entrepreneurship, digital marketing, fire and safety drills, first aid, mental health awareness, and sensitization on GBV, teenage pregnancy, and drug abuse.Participants will also take part in community service such as SHA registration, tree planting, environmental conservation, and public space cleaning.Aligned with H.E. Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia’s “Twende Kazi na Ujuzi Teke Teke” agenda, recruits will receive a modest weekly stipend. The phase ends with a pass-out ceremony.
Phase Two:
Technical Skills TrainingGraduates from Phase One proceed to vocational and TVET training in NITA-approved courses such as plumbing, hairdressing, tailoring, catering, beauty therapy, phone repair, dairy farming, agribusiness, and other market-driven trades. This phase concludes with graduation at the polytechnic level.
Exit Empowerment & Follow-Up:
Graduates will receive support (subject to funding) through internships, apprenticeships, tools and equipment, job linkages, capital support, and business incubation. A follow-up phase will track success stories, lessons learned, and testimonials.
Recruitment will be fair and transparent across all 45 wards. Applicants must be aged 18–35, possess a national ID,medical report, and meet the one-third gender rule. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Commitment and willingness to serve are mandatory.
